The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to undergraduate students. You are encouraged to languages especially critical languages, those deemed to be important to national security.
Eligible Countries:
The scholarship is open to all U.S citizens, especially the underrepresented groups in the education board like;
first-generation college students, ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, students attending HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) or other minority-serving institutions, students attending community colleges, and students coming from U.S. states with less study abroad participation.

How To Apply For Gilman scholarship Program
The application for the Gilman scholarship is done online via the Gilman scholarship official portal. Though you can either apply for the scholarship alone or combined it with the Critical Need Language Award.
Gilman scholarship Critical Need Language Award
If you choose to study the Critical Need Language Award, you automatically qualify for an additional scholarship of up to $ 3,000 bringing the total Gilman scholarship award benefits to a total of $ 8,000.
The Critical Need Language Award is competitive and is given to a limited number of Gilman Fellows each year.
Not all students studying these languages ​​receive $ 8,000. Those who receive the Critical Need Language Award and qualify for the Gilman Scholarship will be given the opportunity to take part in the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI).
This test and the results serve both as a benchmark for the scholarship evaluation and as evidence for the scholarship holder.
To be considered for this award, you must also submit a short essay describing how you plan to improve your basic language skills, what motivates you to do so, and how your language studies relate to your academic and professional goals.
