The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is glad to announce the commencement of its annual PTDF National Scholarship.

Thus, the PTDF is a federal government agency charged with the responsibility of developing local human capacity as well as oil technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry.

Established by Act 25 of 1973 as amended in Cap 15 of 2000. The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) replaced the former Gulf Oil company Training Fund Act 1964.

The agency as stated earlier is charged with the responsibility of training the top workforce for the Nigerian oil and gas sector.

Thus, to ensure the continuous implementation of this mandate, PTDF established the PTDF annual scholarship program for qualified Nigerians to study for their MSc and Ph.D. programs either in-country or overseas.

What to do When Applying for PTDF Oversea scholarship

For this year’s academic session (2021-2022), the PTDF overseas scholarship will be taken in the following countries namely; United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, France (through Campus France), and some top institutions in The USA.

For the in-country, the PTDF National scholarship will be taken in federal universities

PTDF Overseas Scholarship  Eligibility

This scholarship is highly competitive, thus if you must succeed follow these eligibility criteria list below. The scholarship board set up will judge your application using them.

Masters Applicant:

  • Applicants must be in possession of a full-time admission letter into any of the Federal Universities in Nigeria
  • A minimum of 2.1 (Second Class Upper) in gas oil and gas-related field or a 2.2 (second class lower) in an oil and gas-related field and working experience of 2 years in an Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Possess not less than five credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO;
  • National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate or an official Letter of exemption;
  • Applicants of this Scholarship must be computer literate;
  • Letter of admission into the Federal University;
  • Academic transcript;
  • Evidence of applicant’s state of origin and local government;
  • Personal statement of not less than a hundred words explaining why you are taking your current course;
  • Recent passport photograph

Ph.D Applicants

  • Applicants must be in possession of a full-time admission letter into any of the Federal Universities in Nigeria
  • A minimum of 2.1 (Second Class Upper) in gas oil and gas-related field or a 2.2 (second class lower) in an oil and gas-related field and working experience of 2 years in an Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Possess not less than five credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO;
  • National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate or an official Letter of exemption;
  • Applicants of this Scholarship must be computer literate;
  • Letter of admission into the Federal University of not more than a year;
  • Academic transcript;
  • Evidence of applicant’s state of origin and local government;
  • Personal statement of not less than a hundred words explaining why you are taking your current course;
  • Recent passport photograph
  • A minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a certificate not less than merit as a second-degree certificate in a discipline related to oil and gas;
  • Applicant’s research area must be related to oil and gas or relevant to the field;
  • Ph.D. research proposal of about five pages and should not be more than six pages to include the topic, introduction, research question(s), literature review, novelty, methodology, expected outcome(s), mode of data collection(s), relevance to the industry and appropriate references

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)(USA)
  • G.R.E (Graduate Record Examination) (USA)
  • GMAT –for Management related courses (USA)
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (UK)

PTDF Overseas Scholarship Worth

This scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship, as it covers the tuition fees, flight tickets, accommodation, book allowance e.tc.

For locations that require you to learn the country’s language, the scholarship will as well cover the cost.

Unlike the overseas scholarship, the in-country scholarship scheme cut across all the levels of study;

Undergraduates, masters, and Ph.D. students are all eligible to apply.

Here, both the undergraduate and MSC applicants are expected to submit a scholarship statement of purpose, discussing why they wish to take the course of study, its relevance to the oil and gas industry, and the contribution of the course to national development.

While those applying for the Ph.D. level will submit a research proposal of not more than six pages to include the following topic(s).

  • introduction,
  • literature review,
  • research question(s), novelty,
  • methodology,
  • mode of data collection(s),
  • expected outcome(s),
  • relevance to the industry and
  • appropriate references.

Moreso, the scholarship panel will also consider the following when going through your scholarship applications.

  • Academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees, full academic transcripts, other professional qualifications acquired and relevant publications to be referenced by applicants.
  • Membership of professional bodies.
  • The viability of the study/research plan (Ph.D. applicants only)

PTDF Undergraduate Scholarship Requirements

If you are an undergraduate applying for the in-country PTDF scholarship scheme please ensure to abide by the following eligibility criteria.

  • Applicants must be admitted to any of the federal universities in Nigeria
  • The Applicant must be in their second year of study a
  • Applicant must be studying a course that has something to do with oil and gas
  • Applicants should have not less than five credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO Mathematics and English Language included
  • Possess not less than a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 on a scale of 5 or a Cumulative Grade point of 3.0 on a scale of 4; this should be equivalent to 2.1 in the first year of study
  • An applicant is expected to provide their transcript for the first year of study
  • The students and their undergraduate levels who make the above requirements are to upload the following documents:
  • Evidence WAEC/SSCE/NECO results may be a statement of result with not less than credits, including Mathematics and English Language.
  • Letter of admission into the current University
  • First-year academic transcript
  • Evidence of state of origin and local government
  • Personal statement of not less than a hundred words explaining why you are taking your current course
  • Recent Park passport photographs

NOTE PLEASE

The eligbility for the in-country scholarship scheme for MSc and PhD applicants is the same as that of the overseas scholarship scheme.

PTDF undergraduate scholarship Required Documents

  • Evidence of statement of WAEC/SSCE/NECO results with at least 5 credits, including English Language and Mathematics (not more than 2 sittings, and the first sitting result must be uploaded).
  • Letter of admission into the University
  • First-year academic transcript(s) duly signed and stamped by HOD/Exams Officer or any authorized staff.
  • Certificate of indigene-ship (evidence of the state of origin and local government)
  • Personal statement of a minimum of 1000 words stating reasons for undertaking the course of study.

PTDF Required Documents for MSc applicants

  • First Degree Certificates or Statement of Results
  • NYSC Certificate or letter of exemption
  • WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO Result(s)
  • Admission Letter (2019/2020 or 2020/2021 session)
  • Personal Statement
  • Certificate of indigene ship (evidence of the state of origin and local   government)

PTDF Required Documents for PhD Applicants

  • 1.    Second Degree Certificates or Statement of Results
  • 2. Ph.D. research proposal (The proposal template can be accessed via the applicant’s profile on the PTDF Scholarship Management Portal)

How To Apply For The PTDF SCHOLARSHIP 2021-2022

No matter the scholarship type you applying for (in-country or overseas), undergraduate, masters, or PhD. the application process is the same.

You will need to access the PTDF Scholarship Portal or website, where you generate a pin that will then allow you to fill PTDF Scholarship form online.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

In this year application, Applicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN) before applying for the scholarship. Applicants are to note that they will be required to verify their NIN before proceeding with the application (NIMC verification charges apply).
  •  the Applicants who have benefitted from any of the PTDF scholarships in the past cannot apply for the same or lower category of degree.
  •   Applicants who are beneficiaries of any other scholarship need not apply.
  • Application is restricted to Federal Universities and for specific courses only.
  •   Possession of valid admission letter into the University is mandatory for all applicants.
  • Postgraduate applicant’s admission letter should be within a validity
