Graduate Programs

Generally, all graduate programs require applicants to have completed or plan to complete a bachelor’s degree, which is equivalent to 16 years of study.

Candidates who have different qualifications will need to contact the admissions office associated with the graduate program to which they would like to apply.

Many programs also include a GRE score as a required part of the application package, so applicants must take the test before applying.

In particular, we note that some graduate programs may have restrictions depending on the institution where applicants received their bachelor’s degree.

For example, the International Program in Economics (UTIPE) at the Graduate School of Economics only accepts students from foreign universities and does not accept applicants who have studied at Japanese universities at the undergraduate level.

This includes American universities with campuses in Japan. Instead, these applicants must apply through the regular (non-UTIPE) entrance exam for admission. The graduate program for international students in the Graduate School of Science also has similar restrictions.
